Part 1 ยท Week 2: The Fear of the Lord (Beginning of Wisdom)
Day 13 of 365
"Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers." - Acts 9:31 (NIV)
We've talked about awe, reverence, and humility. But the fear of the Lord also leads to peace, strength, and encouragement. It seems like a paradox, doesn't it? But when we have a right-sized view of God, our own problems and anxieties shrink in comparison. When our ultimate concern is honoring Him, the daily pressures of business, the market fluctuations, and even the challenges of raising a large family find their proper perspective. This verse shows that a community living in the fear of the Lord doesn't become timid or paralyzed; it is strengthened and it grows. For a man with the "Positivity" strength, this is a powerful truth: the most solid foundation for a positive outlook is a deep and abiding reverence for the God who is in control of all things.
Lord, thank you that fearing you doesn't lead to anxiety, but to peace. Strengthen me as I live in reverence of you. Encourage my heart through your Holy Spirit, so that I can be a source of strength and growth for my family and my community. Amen.
Take a moment to list three things that are causing you anxiety. Next to each one, write down a truth about God's character that speaks to that anxiety. Surrender them to Him in prayer.
